Artist's Comments

Little blank journal handpainted and textured with a polymer clay plaque attached to the cover. Painted with metallic and acrylic paint. Adorned with iridescent blood red glass gems.
Kind of ancient looking isn't it? LOL

It measures 5" x 7"

This journal sold recently but I often post similar blank journals in my Etsy shop here [link]

I'm always creating new things so check back often! :D

Oh that's just beautiful! You sure have an eye for pretty covers :)
About the book I was talking about earlier (if you still remember xD)... I finally got my paws unto it, but sadly it doesn't cover the making of coptic books. But it does have a chapter about Japanese bindings :3 They're even simpler than copts :D

Thank you! Of course I remember! I was at the bookstore and saw a book on making books and it did show different styles of bindings with Japanese names. The stitching made pretty patterns on the cover. Is that the Japanese binding you are talking about? I almost bought the book but I'm strapped for cash right now. Soon I will try my hand at it. So, do you think the Japanese style may be a good place to start?

Aughh! Sorry it took me so long to answer! I had my very first exhibition ever, and I've been dead tired after the vernissage. Just couldn't get anything done >.>
Yes, Japanese bindings are usually quite simple, just a few holes, that go trough the whole book and the covers stiched together with strong yarn. They are very beautiful ^^ But I kind of feel that your detailed and rich style might not get along with the simple style of japanese books. But you probably could find new, exiting things to try with the books :)
The main problem with Japanese books is the fact, that the covers must be very bendy and thin so that the book can even be opened. I ruined my only Japanese book just by adding too much glue to the covers, that were made from three different papers D: From this point of view the coptic bindings are more suitable for your style of working (the books that you posted a while ago are so beautiful! Especially the one with the dragons eye was magnificent ^^)

Whew, what a long comment :'D

Thanks so much for your comments! Wow, your first exhibition...how exciting!! Where was it? Someone here on dA showed me a tutorial on coptic stitch binding that seems very helpful. I've saved them in my favorites. I can't wait to try it. Just need to get a few supplies.
Take care!
