Artist's Comments

Polymer clay over glass. I made this for my Dad for Father's Day. Of course, here it is Father's Day and I've just finished it...I'm a horrible procrastinator...sigh*
Anyhoo, black and brown Fimo was used. Once cured acrylic and metallic paints were added.
Kinda looks like an alien asteroid doesn't it? LOL
Holes were cut into the clay here and there and, if used as a candleholder, it would allow the light to shine through.

See, one of the things I've been liking a lot about your work is that you're really good at making things look organic--I just looked at the title of this piece after going "wow" at it's toad-hide quality and colors. Beautiful blend of textures and materials, really nice composition. A cool gift for your dad!

what brand of paints do you use?

--
Of course you can't eat clay, but that didn't stop anyone from making food out of it.

I almost responded to your question about paints but I am so inexperienced that I am not sure that what I use is the best but it is Liquitex acrylic paints. I also use Rub-n-buff but it has to be sprayed with a fixative of some sort or it begins to wear off and you have to be careful of the fixative you use so that it does not react with the clay....still working on that one. :)

Funny, I use Liquitex too. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but they never seem opaque enough.
