Polymer clay on clear acrylic by MandarinMoon Polymer clay on clear acrylic by MandarinMoon
Polymer clay and iridescent glass gems on a clear acrylic tile. Approx. 4" x 4"
I covered the tile with black Fimo clay, cut holes in the clay and placed the gems over the cutouts so that the light can shine through them. Once cured, I added metallic paint.

The first thing that appealed to me about polymer clay was that you could begin without any expensive equipment. No need for a kiln, your home oven is fine when you are starting out. The clay itself is not that expensive. Here in Missouri it may cost $2.50 per pack, sometimes less when it is on sale. You can buy it online or any craft/art store should carry it. Give it a try!

Thank you very much! I will look into it. Is there a specific brand I should buy? I'm looking for one that doesn't crumble easily and Is flexible. Have any recommendations?

It depends on the brand, color and age of the clay. Give the package a squeeze to see how soft it is before you buy it. I use Premo! brand and it is usually not crumbly. Have fun!

Thank you :) I used Rub-n-buff which is a metallic wax on this piece. It is rather expensive but the tiniest bit goes a loooong way.

I've seen this style before and admired it a bit, but since I'm not really that deep into the craft world on a regular basis, kind of forgot about it. Very cool concept and it turned out lovely! I may start taking notes here XD
