Watercolor Spring Duck Egg by MandarinMoon Watercolor Spring Duck Egg by MandarinMoon
I'm taking a break from polymer clay and started painting duck eggs. This was painted with various inks. Happy spring!

So pretty. Are duck eggs easy to paint? Does it get broken easily. I like your way of using colors.

They are relatively easy to paint and surprisingly durable. Of course, if you drop it on a hard surface it will most likely break. That is why I started working on a bed of paper towels. Juuuuust in case. :D The hardest thing about painting eggs is not painting your fingers at the same time, or smudging the painted parts!

It's very pretty, but what about the ducks? Are they all okay?

Thanks! Oh, the ducks are fine. I had to feed them lots of jelly beans to get them to lay eggs like this. You should have seen the ducklings that hatched!!

Ducks can eat jelly beans? Nevertheless, I'm glad, and please keep making beautiful eggs! Or arts in general!

Wow this is so beautiful!  The different details in the colors are amazing, and I love the alternating leaves/ovals.  Gorgeous!

very nicely done.
with the colours, orangey-red and green it reminds me of an autimnal scene, especially with the leaves.

I actually buy them from a farmer who drills one tiny hole in one end, empties them and cleans them up. They are surprisingly sturdy. She must have some healthy hens!

Love this :D Another beauty.. You were asking about what to do for tuts? A simple first one would be something like this. Clay takes a lot longer depending on what your making.. For practice, and because I would love to know how you did this, (LOL) this might be a good first go for a vid tut.

Thank you! As I was painting this I was thinking the same thing. I love to watch other people draw or paint. It gives me goosebumps...isn't that funny? Anyway, I was imagining video taping the process and speeding it up a bit so that people could watch it progress.

I took step by step photos when I painted the two smaller eggs in this photo Three Painted Eggs by MandarinMoon. I will post them on my blog soon. I just have to figure out whether to post every photo individually or make collages. Here is a link to my blog mandarinmoonart.blogspot.com/

Really loved the blog :D Perhaps an easier way to get the stubborn wax parts off is to use a lighter or a heat gun. Nothing prolonged, just a few close-ish swipes over it and then wipe quickly with a towel or something? If there is a ton of pics, good collages work well. Number the steps though. If its not a ton, then mayhaps each one. Looking forward to seeing them. Id love to see one where the black ink was butterfly wings. that would be so pretty.

Thank you for the idea. I decided to forgo the wax step as it did not seem to add enough to the design to justify it. I took step by step photos of the coloring process of another egg but the experiment didn't work out as expected. Heheheh...that's the way things go sometimes!
